Sustainable Merton runs a number of community gardening projects in Merton and we are always looking to recruit new volunteers to join in the fun!

MCOG Group2

Gardening is a mindful form of exercise that brings mental clarity and feelings of reward. Don’t worry if you’ve never gardened before, learn by digging in. It’s gardening, not rocket science! Gardening also allows you to grow varieties of your favourite food that are not available in the shops.

Tips for Beginners:

  • Join a community gardening project near you.
  • Grow your favourite herbs in pots on the window sill or on the doorstep.
  • Start with seeds and low priced plants. That way it is no biggie if they don’t survive while you’re learning. The internet is a great resource for any budding gardener, use it!

Basic tool kit: Gloves, trowel, hand fork, spade, large fork, watering can.

Basic Materials: Pots, compost, plants, seeds and plant feed.
