

In 2003, Merton Council famously pioneered the requiement for new, non-residential buildings over 1000 square metres to include enough renewable energy generation to provide at least 10% of its predicted energy demand. The idea spread across the UK, becoming known as the Merton Rule.

Project Dirt is a networking tool set up by two friends to help make green living easier. Setup by Transition Town Wimbledon, the Wimbledon Food Group is for people who want to grow their own food. As many people in Wimbledon don’t have a garden or access to an allotment, they have made doing something about this their priority. We want to look at options like setting up community gardens, new allotments and garden share, and work with Merton Council to find out what is possible. We think that if people can get together and pool ideas, then we can make more progress.
Wimbledon Farmers' Market is held every Saturday, 10:00 to 13:00, at Wimbledon Park Primary School, Havana Road, off Durnsford Road, London SW19 8EJ. It is become a firm local favourite, with around twenty stalls each week, selling a wide variety of top-notch produce.

The Appliance Reuse Centre (ARC) is a charity that works closely with Croydon Council. Its aim is to collect, refurbish and redistribute durable items such as cookers, fridges, washing machines and furniture in good condition and make these available at a reasonable cost.
Capital Growth is a partnership initiative between London Food Link, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, and the Big Lottery's Local Food Fund. It aims to create 2012 new community food growing spaces across London by the end of 2012.
The Environment Agency is the government body charged with protecting and improving the environment of England and Wales. It issues permits for regulated business activities and prosecutes environmental offences.
The "What's in my Backyard? feature on its website allows the public to find out the flood risk to their homes, emissions from local industries and nearby pollution incidents.

We hold a quiz at The Guardian Centre, 67 Clarendon Road, Colliers Wood, SW19 2DX, a few times each year. A ticket buys a very tasty dinner and an enjoyable evening out.
