Merton Council’s new scheme is designed to encourage residents to increase their recycling from 39% to more than 42.5% by 2016!

Everyone who signs up will be entered into a prize draw and eleven households will be randomly selected each month, with one winning £250 and the other ten receiving £100! The council will be updating its leader boards so everyone can track their progress. There are also prizes to be won by primary schools and communities living on estates or in blocks of flats.

Many homes have now received Mega Recycle packages containing registration forms to complete, as well as a sticker to number your recycling box and one to remind you what to recycle. You can also SIGN UP online to pledge to correctly recycle as much of your waste as possible!

Merton Council director of environment and regeneration Chris Lee sees this as a ‘great opportunity to get the whole borough recycling’ and Sustainable Merton are also supporting and promoting the project. Please do contact us to find out more, and we’d also love to hear from you if you’d like to volunteer your time to knock on doors and encourage other Merton residents to get involved!
