Big London Energy Switch

2013

Sustainable Merton worked with the London Borough of Merton to give all Merton residents the opportunity to potentially save money on their gas and electricity bills.

Along with 20 other London boroughs, Merton signed up to a collective bidding process, which aimed to offer a better deal for those who registered. The revolutionary idea was supported by the government as it is felt that too many people are paying too much for their energy and are failing to shop around for cheaper tariffs.

Once registration closed, all energy companies were invited to offer their best prices (with details of how much money could potentially be saved) to everyone who registered, and they would then decide if they would like to accept this.
