Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Sustainable Merton is deeply saddened by the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts are with her family and everyone struggling to come to terms with her passing, just as we are. May she rest in peace, alongside her beloved husband.

The Queen recognised the need for urgent action on climate change and delivered an important message in her video address to COP26 delegates in Glasgow, in which she said: "The time for words has now moved to the time for action". So, in her honour, we will continue to push forward and work hard to bring people together through community climate action.

If you are feeling overwhelmed during these difficult times and need someone to talk to or you are looking for an outlet to pause and reflect, please do come along to any of the events listed here - you'll always find a friendly face and welcoming space.

The Queen's Green Canopy

The Queen planted more than 1,500 trees all over the world throughout her long reign and she recognised their importance to people and the planet.

The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark the Platinum Jubilee, and now her passing. In the first planting season, from October 2021 to March 2022, the project inspired over a million trees to be planted.

Everyone from individuals to cities, schools and corporates is encouraged to plant trees when the planting season commences again this October, through to the end of the Jubilee year. Each tree planted will benefit future generations and create a living legacy in honour of the Queen's extraordinary life and 70 years of service.
