The focus of last month’s Environment Sub Group was Community Engagement. The big attendance at this meeting shows how important this issue is to Merton charities, public services, social enterprises and businesses – and just how difficult it is to get it right. The main barriers were identified as lack of trust and the need to get out there and find ways to talk to people directly. Speakers highlighted how working with trusted partners and being organised and imaginative when trying to communicate your message can all help break down these barriers.
