#PlasticFreeMerton making waves in Morden

On 2nd June, ten of Sustainable Merton's Community Champions and volunteers celebrated the start of Emma Rogers' Great Pacific Race - an epic 2,400 mile ocean crossing to raise awareness of plastic pollution, and helped to spread the word about our #PlasticFreeMerton campaign at Morden Hall Park's annual BioBlitz.

The park was buzzing with activity and our mini "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" drew much attention! Our Community Champions spoke to 80 local people - many of whom are concerned about the issue of plastic waste, inspiring them to take action against plastic pollution here in Merton. "For those who were already 'converted' we challenged them to go a step further and make one more change - this was really powerful!" - Sandy, Community Champions Project Manager. One visitor said:

"You've really made us think - I'm going to buy a reusable water bottle today!"

We were also joined by journalist - Elena Angelides from the SW Londoner, and we thank her, and everyone who came along on the day, for their support!
