Have a waste-free Halloween

A shocking 18,000 tonnes of perfectly edible squash is wasted and sent to landfill every year, highlighting the scary truth about the issue of food waste in the UK.

A pumpkin is not just for Halloween and there are so many ways to use the seeds and flesh to make tasty treats for you and your little devils!

Storing

Clean the pumpkin seeds by soaking them in salted water for a couple of hours to get all the flesh off, then dry them out or roast them before storing in an airtight container.

Fresh pumpkin will keep in the fridge for around 3 days, or frozen it will last up to 8 months.

Make the most of a whole pumpkin

Love Food Hate Waste has created a step-by-step guide to help your family get through a whole pumpkin, without eating the same meal twice.

Compost leftovers

With so many delicious recipes to choose from, there shouldn’t be much waste in your home this Halloween – saving food and money! – but for those bits you really can’t squeeze in or store, please remember to pop them into your food caddy for composting.
