The government’s Green Deal scheme is a way for householders to pay for home improvements designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs.

 

Savings are gained through better insulation, more efficient boilers, draught proofing and other measures.

 

The scheme enables you to ‘pay as you save’ for some or all of the improvements through instalments on your energy bill. Repayments are intended to be no more than what a ‘typical household’ should in energy costs and are based on an estimation of this.

 

As part of this initiative, Sustainable Merton:

 

• Publicised the scheme across the borough and ascertained local residents’ views of it.

• Offered 60 free household assessments to local residents and a limited number of businesses, at no cost, as part of the ‘Green Deal Pioneer Places’ project, to enable the Department of Energy and Climate Change and Merton Council to learn more about how the scheme could be run,

The programme was undertaken in partnership with the Greater London Authority and Climate Energy and all funded assessments have now been fully allocated.
