At Sustainable Merton, we support residents, businesses and community organisations to reduce waste and build a more circular economy in Merton — moving away from throwaway culture towards reusing, repairing and sharing resources.
Our borough-wide work helps reduce waste, save money, protect nature and bring people together through community climate action.
Join us at a Repair Café, develop sewing skills at our Preloved Studio, and discover local services helping keep useful items out of the bin.
Please note: We are not a waste collection service and cannot accept donations of preloved items.
Repair, Reuse and Recycling Merton

Clothing, Textiles & Alterations

The Preloved Studio (by Sustainable Merton): Community sewing, clothing alterations, mending and upcycling support in Mitcham.

Textile Recycling Banks: Recycle suitable clothing, shoes and household textiles at local collection points.

TRAID: Donate unwanted clothing, shoes and textiles through home collection services.
Electrical Appliances & Electronics

TRAID: Check eligibility for collection of small electrical and electronic items alongside clothing donations.

Recycling:

Pop-up Recycling Events: Look out for Merton Council's neighbourhood pop-up tips for recycling selected household materials, small electricals and bulky items. Bring proof of residency and check which items are accepted.

Responsible Waste Removal Services: If using a private rubbish clearance company, check that it is registered with the Environment Agency as a waste carrier and ask where your items will be taken.
