Business Champions: Time and Leisure

Time & Leisure Magazine is the top lifestyle magazine for SW London and Surrey. The ultimate guide to what’s on, fashion and beauty, interiors and travel and all you need to know in the local area. Readers engage with our high quality publications in print, online and events giving businesses 360 degree marketing opportunities to reach their target audience. Our Creative Agency helps businesses produce professional marketing material from creating high quality content to creative graphic design for print and digital.

Why is sustainability important to you?

As a business, we strive to make a positive impact on the world. Our magazine and digital publications enrich the lives of our readers and increase the enjoyment of their neighbourhoods. We therefore feel it is vital to have an ethically sound business which is harmonious with our ethos and that we work towards reducing our environmental impact.

What environmental issues particularly resonate with your business?

Recycling in both residential homes and businesses is important for the sustainability of our paper magazines. We encourage readers to recycle their copy when the next one arrives.

What are you currently doing to run a more sustainable business?

We use FSC certified paper for all our magazines which means the trees are grown specifically for paper pulp usage. We don’t publish laminated covers so they are fully recyclable. We regularly participate in plastic-free Tuesday and engage in plastic-free conversations online. Time & Leisure supports local companies and the local economy, encouraging residents to use their local shops and businesses, limiting mileage. We publish an eco/green edition, helping readers find new ideas to green their lifestyle including beauty, fashion, interiors, shopping and local news stories. We will continue to report on eco and green stories and highlight businesses that are committed to the environment. Our team is taking part in planting trees in the local area with Sustainable Merton and have also sponsored 25 tree saplings which the team will be planting on our office’s site. We will continue to get involved in opportunities that make a positive impact on our local and wider environments.

Why would you encourage other businesses to become a Business Champion?

Customers increasingly want to know they are using environmentally friendly businesses, proving your green credentials and commitment to sustainability is part of future proofing your business.

What are your long term/short term sustainability objectives?

Short term to make changes where possible in our office by increasing recycling, reducing our energy usage and promoting an environmental-first work ethic. We also want to analyse our magazine delivery methods and through the magazine support local environmental initiatives and eco-living. Long term to be a carbon net zero business
