About The Event
This year, more than ever, our parks and green spaces have been a vital lifeline to so many of us during lockdown. Around 9 in 10 people surveyed by Natural England in May 2020 agreed that natural spaces are good for mental health and wellbeing.
Keep Britain Tidy's #LoveParks Week is a chance for us to celebrate our park and showcase the best of what it has to offer. That's why we're inviting everyone to join this month's #WasteWarriors Weekend and help make it an extra special one! Get involved and do your bit to care for our local parks and green spaces by joining forces (in spirit) with other #WasteWarriors to collect and safely dispose of litter.
There are two ways you can get involved in #WasteWarriors Weekends:
♻️ Organise a private clean-up * (please see the guidance below)
♻️ Pledge to do your own individual litter-pick.
Remember to share photos and stories on social media to inspire others to do their bit!
Use the hashtag #WasteWarriors and don't forget to tag Sustainable Merton - @SustainableMert (Twitter) / @sustainablemerton (Instagram)
* IMPORTANT - CORONAVIRUS GUIDANCE
As of 19 July 2021**, most legal restrictions to control COVID-19 in England have been lifted at step 4. Currently, there is no limit on the number of people you can meet outdoors. You do not need to stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with. However, in order to minimise risk at a time of high prevalence, you should limit the close contact you have with those you do not usually live with. This includes minimising the number, proximity and duration of social contacts.
Individuals displaying symptoms (or in contact with those with symptoms) or have been directly advised to self-isolate SHOULD NOT litter-pick.
Before organising or participating in a clean-up event, PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND READ our guidance for litter picks during Covid-19.
**Government guidance on the lockdown may tighten or ease over time
