Want to make friends, learn a creative skill, reduce your textile waste, and save money? Join Project Preloved: The social sewing community for those who can’t sew (but want to give it a go!).
After leading a successful Web Chat on sustainable fashion, textile extraordinaire Cecilija Berg is back by popular demand to lead workshop 2 of the Project Preloved series!
Building on the skills learned in Workshop 1 (Beginner Hand Stitching and Mending Techniques), this upcycle and textile care workshop gives advice on how to upcycle, mend and freshen up your existing clothes and what to look for when shopping sustainably in the future. This will include various mending techniques as well as a brief introduction of what materials to look for when shopping for clothes.
At the end of the workshop, there will be a round table and brainstorm ideas for how to upcycle your preloved garments and textiles. Feel free to bring a garment you love and need to mend or that you wish to upcycle into something else for advice and ideas.
Although this workshop is a follow on from the previous, it it also suitable for people with basic sewing skills and want to learn more.
Project Preloved is a series of 4 free beginner sewing workshops that will give you the knowledge to make your clothes last and, at the end of their life, upcycle them into something new. From basic stitching and mending techniques to upcycling your old t-shirt into a scarf, Project Preloved will cover it all!
