New Year’s Day Litter Pick

On New Year’s Day, Sustainable Merton teamed up with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Associaion (AMYA) to kick off 2016 in a positive way by holding a community litter pick in Morden Town Centre.

40 young people were supported by members of Sustainable Merton and local councillor Peter Southgate to clear long term litter in the raised beds, and a total of 15 bags of rubbish were filled and disposed of.

The event was also supported by Merton Council’s ‘Love Your Street team’ and we thank all those who came along to help make the clean-up a success!

Community engagement will continue to be a top priority for Sustainable Merton, and this year will be a busy one as we recruit and train local Community Champions. The overarching aim of this new and exciting project is to establish a team of champions to undertake a range of environmental engagement work throughout the borough.
