** RESCHEDULED ** Be a Local Hero for environmental action!

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

** IMPORTANT UPDATE **

We regret to announce that the Local Hero competition which usually takes place in April will be rescheduled until the autumn (exact date to be confirmed). Taking into account the government's recent advice regarding social distancing to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Localgiving have decided that the most responsible thing to do would be to postpone the competition until the autumn.

We’re excited to let you know about a fantastic opportunity for local fundraisers to win up to £1,000 for Sustainable Merton!

In April, athletes, artists and dare-devils from across the country will be raising money for local charities in a bid to be crowned Localgiving’s Local Hero champion!

Local Hero will be launched on 1st April and will run until 30th April. All participants need to do is think up a challenge, set up a fundraising page for Sustainable Merton on Localgiving and persuade as many people as possible to donate.

Throughout April, fundraisers will be ranked on the Local Hero leaderboard according to the number of unique online donors who sponsor their page. At the end of the campaign, Localgiving will award £5,000 in prizes to the causes supported by the top 20 fundraisers, with a top prize of £1,000 going to the cause of the fundraiser who has secured the most donors.

We’d be incredibly grateful if you would consider setting up a fundraising page and becoming our Local Hero!

What is the #LocalHero campaign?

You can find full details about the campaign here.

How will the money raised be spent?

Any money you raise for us will go towards helping to improve our environment and empower communities so that Merton can be part of the solution to the global climate emergency affecting the lives of people near and far.

From eliminating single-use plastic bottles across the borough through our Refill Merton scheme and fighting food waste with the launch of Merton's first Community Fridge, to co-leading Merton's Business Network for Climate Action, our projects tackle urgent issues at a grassroots level and any money you raise will go directly towards making this happen.

Just imagine what we could do with an extra £1,000!

How can you get involved?

If you think you could be our Local Hero, then please visit our Localgiving page here: localgiving.org/sustainablemerton and click ‘Fundraise for us’ to get started. Only donations made between the 1st and 30th of April will count toward the campaign, but you can get your page set up and ready to go right away!

Big thanks for your support from the Sustainable Merton team : )
