A new cargo bike scheme launched on Monday 9th May in Wimbledon Town Centre as part of a free trial.
This forms part of the Defra-funded Clean Air Villages 4 (CAV4) programme, with partners Cross River Partnership, London Borough of Merton, Love Wimbledon and cargo bike provider XeroE.
This service, which is provided by XeroE, is available to book via an online platform, with a set number of pre-paid hours available for businesses to use. The cargo bike scheme aims to show businesses the ease of switching to cargo bikes for their deliveries, ultimately reducing carbon footprints, local air pollution, and saving costs.
The launch event saw all partner organisations come together to showcase the bike to local businesses. Cross River Partnership, London Borough of Merton, Love Wimbledon and XeroE were joined by very special guest The Wombles, and introduced the scheme to local businesses looking for a free, local delivery solution.
Businesses can sign up to the scheme HERE. Just reference ‘Free Wimbledon Project/Trial’ in the ‘Additional Notes’ section.

“Here at Merton Council, we’re committed to reducing air pollution for the good of everyone who lives, works and travels in the borough. In our most recent Air Quality Action Plan, it was reported that approximately 60% of Nitrogen Dioxide emissions in Merton come from road traffic. We believe the best way to eliminate these emissions is to make less polluting options more convenient. We have already started to do this for residents by installing hundreds of electric vehicle charging points, and making walking and cycling in the borough safer and more accessible. Now, we’re delighted to join with our partners to offer local businesses in Wimbledon an easy way to cut their emissions through the new cargo bike scheme. I would encourage all businesses in the area, big or small, to do their bit for all of our lungs, and take advantage of this fantastic offer.”
- Chris Lee, Merton Council’s Director of Environment and Regeneration
