At Sustainable Merton, we believe in the power of nature to foster connection and wellbeing. As a long-term member of Merton Dementia Action Alliance, we are working locally to help make Merton dementia inclusive.
Recently, we’ve been spending time at Merton Memory Hub, Mitcham. Our collaboration began in the autumn when we planted daffodil bulbs together. This spring, we returned to add wildflower seeds to the raised beds, and it was wonderful to see the daffodils in full bloom.

The Joy of Gardening
Gardening is a fantastic therapy that allows residents to stay connected to their community. Service users like Alma shared how they continue to enjoy the garden despite new challenges. While she noted that reduced mobility can make gardening "tricky" now, she remains active in the soil, saying:

“I still do it though where I can. I love gardening and nature!”

Most recently, we delivered vegetable seed sowing sessions with the Forget Me Not activity group. Together, we sowed beans, peas, courgettes, and a variety of fresh microgreens.
Once these seedlings are established, they will be moved to the garden for the group to harvest and enjoy together, celebrating the simple joy of growing food.
