We are working with partner organisations to support local businesses as they take action to reduce their environmental impact and contribute to Merton's overall sustainability agenda.
33% of all emissions in the borough come from businesses and in a recent survey, Merton Council found that over 50% of businesses who responded to the survey said they felt responsible for climate change and could make a difference
On 16th January 2020 we launched Merton’s Business Network for Climate Action in partnership with Merton Chamber of Commerce and Wimbledon Centre Court
Shopping Centre, to celebrate 2020 as their Year of Sustainability.
At a time when concern about the escalating climate crisis continues to grow, we want to support businesses to take action to reduce their environmental impact and to adopt more sustainable business practices.
The aim of Merton's Business Network for Climate Action is to connect businesses who are serious about taking action on the Climate Emergency, to share their experiences and challenges and hear about useful resources, services and products to help them on their journey.
Our Network brings together local businesses and organisations who are here to help – whether it's:
eliminating single-use plastic
sourcing local package-free food
switching energy suppliers
using sustainable energy solutions
raising awareness of environmental issues both internally and within the wider community
We will showcase the good things businesses are doing and lead the green conversation.
The Climate Crisis is a responsibility for all of us and required business leadership and detailed action. We are asking businesses to join our Network, become Business Champions and share their sustainability stories with us.”

Merton's Business Network for Climate Action - July Meeting
Thursday 8th July 2021, 9.30 - 10.30 am
Our Business Champions
Through regular networking events, businesses have an opportunity to share their stories of the positive actions they are taking and services they offer to make business in Merton more sustainable for the benefit of the environment and local economy.
These businesses are demonstrating that although the initial challenge might seem overwhelming, it is possible, and we can all be part of the solution.
We care about the environment and want to educate the younger generation about sustainability issues. We believe that little things make a difference and we are willing to give our space and time to show how we can be sustainable every day.
I know that my clients are smarter and taking action and have a choice on who they use for their hair and spa services. I want to take away all of the barriers for them coming to enjoy themselves and vanish any guilty feelings for wanting to look and feel their best.
Being part of a network means we can exchange ideas with other businesses and learn about their own experiences. The current global climate crisis affects businesses across all industries and joining forces with others is a great way to achieve our goals quicker.
On a local level, we work hard to make sure that we actively contribute
towards the Bank’s environmental aspirations in the communities in which we work. Being part of a network of Business Champions focuses the mind on environmental issues which can easily be lost amongst all the other priorities when you’re trying to run a business.
Share your story to inspire sustainable business in Merton.
